WAKO Maharashtra is the official state governing body for kickboxing in Maharashtra, dedicated to the promotion, development, and regulation of the sport across the region. Operating under the framework of national and international standards, the association provides a structured platform for athletes, coaches, and officials to grow and excel in the sport.
Through organized championships, training programs, and grassroots initiatives, WAKO Maharashtra creates opportunities for athletes at every level — from beginners to elite competitors representing at national and international stages.
The association functions in recognition with the WAKO India Kickboxing Federation (WAKO India) and is affiliated with key sporting bodies including the Maharashtra Olympic Association, School Games Federation of India (SGFI), and university-level competitions under Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Chh. Sambhajinagar and D. Y. Patil University.
Through its expanding network and commitment to excellence, WAKO Maharashtra continues to strengthen the foundation of kickboxing and promote the values of discipline, performance, and sportsmanship across the state.

KICKBOXING ORGANISATION
(WAKO)
Founded in 1976 by Georg F. Brückner of Berlin, WAKO is the global governing body for amateur kickboxing. Today, WAKO comprises over 120 affiliated nations across all continents, uniting some of the strongest and most recognized national kickboxing organizations worldwide.
WAKO continues to expand globally, with many of its national federations officially recognized by their respective National Olympic Committees. In Asia, the WAKO Asian Kickboxing Federation (WAKO Asia) has been granted recognition by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) as the governing body for kickboxing in the region.
Under this recognition, kickboxing has been featured in major continental events, including the 2nd Asian Indoor Games in Macao (2007) as a demonstration sport, the 3rd Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam (2009) as an official sport, the 4th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Korea (2013), the 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan (2017), and the 6th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games held in 2021.
Through its global structure and continuous development, WAKO plays a vital role in promoting, regulating, and advancing the sport of kickboxing worldwide.

WAKO INDIA KICKBOXING
FEDERATION
The WAKO India Kickboxing Federation is the official national governing body for kickboxing in India, responsible for the promotion, development, and regulation of the sport across the country. It operates under the framework of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO), following internationally recognized rules and standards.
WAKO India organizes national championships, selection trials, training programs, and certification courses for athletes, coaches, referees, and officials. It plays a key role in identifying and nurturing talent from grassroots to elite levels, providing athletes with opportunities to compete at national and international platforms.
The federation is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and is associated with major national sports bodies including the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
At the international level, WAKO India is a member of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO), which is recognized by SportAccord and the International World Games Association (IWGA), and further acknowledged by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Through its network of affiliated state associations, including WAKO Maharashtra, the federation continues to strengthen the foundation of kickboxing and expand its reach across the nation.

Players from private universities actively participate in university-level kickboxing competitions.
